Thanumalayan temple

The Thanumalayan Temple is an important Hindu temple located in Suchindram, near Kanyakumari. The Thanumalayan temple is of importance to both the Shaivaite and Vaishnavite sects of Hinduism.
The Seven Storeyed 134 feet tall white gopuram with various Hindu deities Carved on the facade, it provides an architectural treat for the visitors.Built in the 17th century, the whole temple is a great piece of dravidian art; it covers an area of 4 acres. There is a 22 feet Hanuman statue artistically carved out of a single granite block, which makes it one of the tallest of its type in India.
There is a 13feet high and 10 feet wide idol of Nandi, which is unlike the Hanuman statue made of lime and mortar. Another striking feature of temple architecture is its four musical pillars carved out of stone, standing 18 feet tall and one of the major highlights of the temple. The speciality of these pillars is that they emit sounds of various musical notes when tapped. There are also a staggering number of 1035 pillars carved in the dancing hall area. The Navagrahas (imperial stars) are engraved on the ceiling of the temple.

Vattakottai Fort

Vattakottai Fort is a circular fort near Kanyakumari on the beach side. It was built during the 18th century by the Travancore kings as a coastal defence. Now, the fort is under the control of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Vattakottai Fort commands a picturesque view of both the sea on one side and the hills on the other. Another interesting feature near the site is a beach of black sands.

Gandhi Memorial

Gandhi Memorial, also known as Gandhi Mandapam, was erected to respect the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi. It was constructed in 1956, and the structural design of this monument is like the temple in Orissa.
The inner structure of the Gandhi Memorial is about 79 feet high, which symbolizes the age of Mahatma Gandhi when he died. The monument is planned in such a way that every year on October 2, at noontime, the sunrays fall over the exact spot where Gandhiji's ashes were kept prior to immersion.
Gandhi Memorial is situated close to Kanyakumari Temple. This monument is also popular for the library, which includes the old books, pamphlets, and magazines of the period before India's independence. The library is open only on Fridays and Saturdays.
